The style of the loft conversion suitable for your property will vary depending on the size and structural configuration of your property. Loft conversions are commonly constructed in the following styles:
VELUX CONVERSION
This style uses roof windows, often referred to as skylights, to bring light into the loft space. The windows are installed in the pitched roof, so there is very little change to the structure of the original roof.
DORMER LOFT CONVERSION
Here, the structure of roof is altered to include a protruding section, which is usually rectangular or square in shape, with regular style windows to provide light. This style increases the headroom and overall space within a smaller, cramped loft.
On most occasions, loft conversions do not need planning permission as they come under Permitted Development Rights, but we always recommend contacting your local council to confirm permission for any changes you make to your property.
This specification is decided between yourself and your appointed architect. There are many structural factors which need to be taken into consideration before a final position is confirmed, but both your architect and building control inspector will ensure that your new staircase is positioned in the safest place; which on most occasions, is over the existing staircase.
Depending on the size of the property, loft conversions can take between 2-3 months to complete.
Yes, of course. If you are living in the property, we will create a sealed division between your living area and the construction area to minimise dust, dirt and disturbance. We would work our way in, meaning that we would construct as much as possible externally before joining the new construction with the existing property.
